The first step is to provide a little support for the fender aprons during the removal of the support. I could just measure the distances from the corners and match them up with the new support, but I decided this was the best approach given this is the first time I have worked on a car.
Here is a close-up of the tack welds on the temporary apron support:
Here we begin the process of cutting out all of the 100 or so spot welds that hold the radiator support to the rest of the vehicle. Cut away from the aprons:
Cut away from the front of the uni-body:
Cut away the backside of the support from the uni-body. This side was so rusted that it just pulled away:
This side needed to have the spot welds cut away prior to pulling the tab back:
Tab pulled away
Topside, the spots welds are cut away:
The support is then carefully cut along the bottom
And pulled off. This was done because I couldn't get the drill close enough to the rad support to allow for the spot weld cutter to do its job. Since I wasn't reusing the support..... I cut the obstruction out of the way :) !
Here is a shot of the back side of the remnants of the rad support. You can see the top section in the background.
